Schools to Watch highlights middle schools across the country that demonstrate academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, social equity, and strong organizational structures. These schools are recognized for their commitment to creating environments where every student thrives. Let’s take a closer look at three states—Arizona, Indiana, and Florida—that have made significant strides in their Schools to Watch initiatives.
Arizona
"Middle Math Matters" Was a Success!
Thank you to the Helios Education Campus for hosting AzAMLE's first in-person event, "Middle Math Matters" on September 9. We welcomed 125 educators from 35 different school districts, universities, colleges, and state agencies! Special thanks to our steering committee, presenters, and panelists for their dedication to middle grades education in Arizona.
Schools to Watch applications are due December 6, 2024. It is not too late to start your school's application process. This year's award program is generously sponsored by Mountain America Credit Union!
In conjunction with The National Forum, AzAMLE is planning to introduce Arizona Middle Grades Educator Awards in 2025. Let's recognize the work of AZ teachers and administrators in grades 5-9!
Indiana
Cascade Middle School earned their first redesignation as a National Forum School to Watch last spring. (Their banner has now been updated.) The Schools to Watch data system, which had been housed at the University of Illinois for research purposes, has recently migrated to a different location. If you would like to apply for this year, either for the first time or redesignation, please contact Susie Highley!
Thanks to everyone involved in MidCon24, including the presenters, Westfield Schools and Middle School staff, and our partner Keep Indiana Learning. Stay tuned for future collaborations!
Florida
The National Forum welcomes Florida to the Schools to Watch family! Help us grow the program by forwarding this to your friends and colleagues in the Sunshine State! We thank Alicia Harp for taking on the roll as Florida State Director.
